SIMON SHAW - PERSONAL FILE
One of the most inspiring and motivating hairdressers within the industry, Simon Shaw, European Artistic Director, Wahl (UK) Ltd is known for his innovative and fun approach to hairdressing and education.
Simon's innovation with the fantastic Wahl product ranges over the past four years has been phenomenal. His catchphrase of "Cutting with Clippers - Quicker, Easier and More Fun" is known up and down the country. He has taken cutting with clippers to a new level with the introduction of cutting to music, to demonstrate and encourage how easy it is to get great results with clipper cutting using his 'flick and smack' technique.
As European Artistic Director for Wahl (UK) Ltd, Simon is responsible for visualising and creating Wahl (UK)'s renowned photographic imagery, which is published extensively throughout the UK and overseas. Magazine editors across the world love seeing Simon and the Wahl (UK) Artistic Team's work, as it is both innovative and stylish.
Simon is known for his passion towards education and not only hosts the many inspirational seminars and courses that are run within the fantastic Wahl Academy at Herne Bay, Kent but is also the person responsible for designing and developing these seminars and courses. As a result of their enthusiasm and innovation for hairdressing Simon and the Wahl (UK) Artistic Team are huge attractions at all of the major hairdressing exhibitions within the UK including Salon International.
It's not only audiences in the UK who have benefited from Simon's techniques and expertise, Simon and the team also share their passion and skills with audiences overseas. In recent years Simon has travelled extensively to the USA, South Africa, Spain, Holland, Germany, Morocco, Switzerland, France and was the first British hairdresser to undertake a hugely successful tour of Saudi Arabia. Simon's diary for 2007 looks like being one of his busiest ever and he already has dates to appear in Germany and Holland, where he will share his unique and exciting approach to hairdressing to an eager new audience.
Not only does Simon take part in hairdressing exhibitions, stage shows and seminars at the Wahl Academy, he also makes regular appearances on a variety of TV and radio shows on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, QVC, Ideal World and UK Style. As a result of this media work Simon's clientele includes many TV, media and sports personalities.
Keeping his feet firmly on the ground and remaining true to his first love - salon based hairdressing, Simon still makes time to work one day a week in the company he started his hairdressing career with back in 1985, Yorkshire based salon group - Dimensions. Working within Dimensions Simon's career quickly went from strength to strength and within five years Simon became the manager of the top salons within the Dimensions Group.
Now after six successful years as Artistic Director of Wahl (UK) Ltd, Simon is one of the most popular and highly regarded hairdressers within the industry and has now been given the title of European Artistic Director for the Wahl group. Simon has recently seen one of his career dreams come true with the launch of his own product range the Simon Shaw Academy Collection by Wahl, which consists of a range of clippers, trimmers, scissors and accessories.
Passionate and committed with a desire to make every presentation, stage show or Academy seminar that he is a part of fun and exciting Simon is undoubtedly one of the leading stars within hairdressing.
"Simon Shaw is one of the most innovative and exciting educators Salon Services has worked with. Simon talks to the hairdresser in a language they understand, allowing each person attending on of his seminars or demonstrations to take away something new they can put into practice in the salon - a sign of a true educator." Alistair Nicholson, Sales Director, Salon Services
"Simon is an exciting and fun educator and always manages to find the fight mix of education and enjoyment. He relaxes the audience who are then encouraged to participate and can communicate with people at all levels adapting to his audience."
Jane Lewis Orr, Editor in Chief, Hairdressers Journal.
